Sometimes you really want to have a good chat but there never seems to be the right time, or the other person isn't in the right mood or frame of mind - so what do you do?

Change location!  Try taking them on a car journey....it takes away the eye to eye contact, less formidable for the teenager, and they are more open to talking without that pressure.

It's all about the senses too - sometimes people don't give eye contact as they have to shut down one sense to be able to compute the information they are receiving

Listening is the most useful too - listen to understand, not to answer - it's the most caring thing you can do for another human.
